Yorktown Stage to Present BYE BYE BIRDIE, 11/17-25

Yorktown Stage presents the 1961 Tony Award Winner for Best Musical, Bye Bye Birdie.  Considered one of Broadway's finest scores, composer Charles Strouse (Annie) and lyricist Lee Adams spin the familiar tunes, Put On A Happy Face, Lot of Livin', Kids, and One Last Kiss

"Our goal is to provide quality, family entertainment," said Yorktown Stage Producing Director Barry Liebman.  "What could be more entertaining than watching an ensemble cast of 48 teenagers and ... yes, adults ...fainting when rock star Conrad Birdie sings to the entire population of Sweet Apple, Ohio.  Sheer pandemonium."

The story takes place in 1961, surrounding Conrad Birdie, who is drafted into the army.  His agent, Albert Peterson (Dick Van Dyke starred on Broadway) seeks publicity for the event, so he sets up "One Last Kiss" to be given by Conrad to a teenager, Kim Macafee (Ann Margret in the successful film version). The kiss is to take place in middle America, USA, Sweet Apple, Ohio by name, but will be broadcast on The Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday night!  Chita Rivera starred as Rose Alvarez, Albert's girlfriend, who has her own battle with Albert's mother.

The cast has been assembled from NYC professionals and the best local talent. Chelsey Alfredo and Vincent DiGeronimo have been cast as Rosie and Albert.  Broadway professional Chris Jamison (Annie, Fiddler on the Roof) plays Albert's mother and Lauren Lucksavage plays Kim.  Frank Calamaro (Fiddler on the Roof) plays Kim's father in the role made famous by Paul Lynde.

Bye Bye Birdie runs November 17-25, with performances Saturday Evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday Afternoons at 2:00 PM.  A special Thanksgiving Friday performance will be presented November 23 at 2:00 PM.

Yorktown Stage is located in the Yorktown Community Cultural Center, at 1974 Commerce Street (off Veterans Road) in Yorktown Heights, NY. Tickets are $26; Yorktown residents $24; seniors and students $21; children under 12 years old $19. Group discounts are available. Tickets may be ordered by phone at 914-962-0606 or online at www.yorktownstage.org.
